China sorts foreign workers into three categories using a points table. Answer the questions below to see your estimated score and which category it points to.
New to the categories? Read what A, B and C mean
A85+ points
Top foreign talent. The most flexible route, with fewer limits on age and documents.
B60–84 points
Foreign professionals. The usual route for degree holders with relevant experience.
CUnder 60
Temporary or quota-based work. Some cities also allow company legal representatives to apply here.
Before you rely on this score
- This is a self-assessment based on the interim national points table. It is not an official decision, and the authorities assess each application on its documents.
- The category lines used here are 85 points for Category A and 60 for Category B. Local practice can differ, so confirm the rules for your city.
- Ranges include the lower figure and exclude the upper one. For example, a salary of exactly RMB 350,000 scores 17, and exactly 6 months a year scores 10.
- A high score does not replace the other requirements, such as a genuine role, an eligible employer and a clean record. A doctorate alone is not an automatic qualification.
