Case studies

Different challenges.
Practical ways forward.

A closer look at the situations clients brought to Scott and how we helped move them forward.

01 / Company setup · Hainan

A procurement business needed a more practical starting point.

An Indian procurement professional wanted a wholly foreign-owned company in China while keeping his existing supplier relationships in Guangdong.

The challenge

With a high school diploma and several years of procurement experience, he was concerned that the salary-based route he had been quoted would make starting the business too expensive.

What Scott did

Scott compared location options against the client’s background and operating budget, selected Hainan for the application, and coordinated company registration remotely. Professional references and experience documents helped present his procurement background clearly.

The outcome

The company was registered while the client remained overseas. He received a Notification Letter of Foreigner’s Work Permit for a six-month work period and subsequently obtained a six-month work-type residence permit. His business continued working with Guangdong suppliers without needing to relocate its supplier network.

02 / Study-to-work transition · Nantong / Shanghai

Fifteen days left. A missing school document.

A Senegalese graduate in Nantong planned to establish a company and move from study-related status to a work-based route.

The challenge

His existing permission to stay was due to expire in 15 days. The local process requested school documentation or staff assistance, but the university declined to provide further support after graduation.

What Scott did

Scott contacted the immigration authorities to clarify what alternative evidence they would consider. We prepared a detailed explanation of the circumstances, coordinated employment-related documents and submitted the work permit application materials to support the proposed transition.

The outcome

The authorities accepted the alternative supporting materials, allowing the student-status formalities to be completed without school accompaniment. The client maintained lawful status and subsequently completed the work-related application process in Shanghai.

03 / Application documentation · Shanghai

An unclear employment timeline needed a closer look.

A Hungarian entrepreneur with a bachelor’s degree applied for a work-based route through his own Shanghai company.

The challenge

Overlapping study and employment dates made his record difficult to assess. The initial review identified less relevant work experience than the standard route required.

What Scott did

Scott reviewed the chronology of his education, employment and time in China, clarified the timeline and organised the supporting materials into a consistent application package. The focus was on explaining the existing record clearly rather than changing the client’s history.

The outcome

Following submission of the clarified application package, the client received approval for his work-related application in Shanghai.
